In my humble opinion it is the reality described in the first paragraph that negates any possibility of a viable Palestinian state and is the true reason for Abbas’s total rejection of the idea of starting negotiations. Such negotiations can only yield a Palestinian miscarriage and Abbas has no interest in that.
The reality described in the second paragraph has become a Palestinian pretext for refusing to enter negotiations. But it is not a real obstacle at all.
The Palestinian recourse to meaningless pretexts and absolute avoidance of the truth is part and parcel of the characteristic Palestinian psychosis.
But US Pres Obama deserves a big share of the blame for kissing their worthless behinds from square one. Obviously this is one thing for which he did not accept blame in his TIME Magazine interview.
