A Ray of Hope at the UN?

16 December 2006

For 10 years, the world has suffered from a useless UN - on December 31, 2006, Kofi Annan’s 10 year disaster as Secretary General will come to a close. Kofi Annan will go down in history as one of the most corrupt and incapable Secretary Generals ever. During his time, the Palestinian intifada raged, suicide bombing became popularized, genocide was occuring in Sudan, one member country (Iran) threatened genocide against another member country (Israel), ignored 12,000 Hezbollah missiles aimed at Israel previous to the Israel/Hezbollah war, resolutions to bring about a peaceful solution to the Iraq issue failed and it became clear that his support of Iraq made him a very rich man. A terrible track record by any standards.
On January 1, 2007, the United Nations will get a new Secretary General - Ban Ki-moon. Mr. Ki-moon has already apparently distinguished himself as a respectable individual with regards to Jewish issues - let’s hope this continues. This comment is based solely on Mr. Ki-moon’s comments about the Holocaust denial conference, hosted by United Nations member country Iran and it’s “charismatic” President Ahmenijihad (and I misspell that intentionally).

Here are two comments, according to Reuters, made by the upcoming Secretary General, which indicate that Mr. Ki-moon will be a more effective Secretary General than Kofi Annan:

While the above comments could be Mr. Ki-moon’s diplomacy at work, we’re willing to give the new Secretary General the benefit of the doubt. We believe, at this point, that Mr. Ki-moon will be a much more honest and effective Secretary General than Kofi Annan was. The world needs leadership - Mr. Ki-moon, please let us finally have what we deserve - a great leader!
