Where is East Jerusalem?

‍‍22 March 2010 - ח ניסן תשע

We’ve heard a lot of talk about “Arab East Jerusalem” and how upset the Obama administration is about Israel building in it. The only problem is, the building that Israel announced last week is NOT East Jerusalem – Ramat Shlomo is North Jerusalem! And six months ago, the Obama administration was yelling about Gilo – that is in South Jerusalem. So, is the Obama administration trying to make Israel look bad by distorting the truth? Take a look at this map of Jerusalem, courtesy of the Jerusalem Centre for Public Affairs, of Jordanian East Jerusalem before Israel won the land back in 1967. Ramat Shlomo is clearly directly north of the city, and Gilo is southwest of the city.

Dear Friends. I like your site. Its language and maps are straight forward and factual. Please can you tell me why the ‘Christian West’ has become so anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian?
Is it just a deep seated and Semitism that is surfacing once again? Or is it sheer pragmatism,; in that we need the Arab world’s oil so much that we will do anything to ensure its continued supply no matter how much we have to pay for it?

The language of the media, politicians, and even the Church is full of unjust bias, lies, dis-information and a blind stubbornness to accept the historical truth?

Hi Clive, I’d have to disagree with you – I don’t think the “Christian West” is anti-Israel in general. Many Christians in the West are very pro-Israel, much more loud about their Zionism than many Jews! There are certain churches that have passed anti-Israeli resolutions – that, possibly, is old school anti-Semitism, but it’s more likely just distorted thinking of left-leaning leaders, who see Israel as strong, and therefore wrong. I don’t think we can chalk it up to them thinking that the Arabs are more important because of their oil.

When it comes to the media, it could be because they’re left leaning. Or it could be because anybody working amongst the Arabs better get their story “straight”. If they “insult” the wrong person, they could get killed…so they self-regulate and thus, tell lies.

I’m wondering why you think that everybody is against Israel. Everybody with a sane mind should be FOR Israel, but it’s certainly not the case that everybody is against Israel…
