If Israeli government media broadcast that the Palestinians’ destruction is within reach, the world would respond with an uproar. However, a stance like that of the Palestinian media is expected of the Palestinians. It’s been termed “the soft bigotry of low expectations” - people expect little of the Palestinians and then get little.

As evidenced by the poor display of behavior (to put it lightly) by the Arabs after Israel’s withdrawal, the Palestinian Authority has no authority and are not willing to use the little they have. Some of the most valuable items left behind by Israel were greenhouses and synagogues. Some synagogues were burned to the ground (doesn’t peace start with some respect?) and the greenhouses were looted, and without the equipment, they’re useless. The greenhouses represented job opportunities for an estimated 3500 Palestinians right away, and perhaps 6500 long-term. Now, nobody is going to be employed, because the Palestinians didn’t protect what was left.

Yes it will help: The Palestinians have shown the world how irresponsible they are, both the government and the people. Does a “people” like this, who loot and shoot deserve their own country? Does a society that believes in honour-killings and family revenge deserve their own state? The world will see the Palestinians for what they are - people that cannot help themselves. We feel that the erosion of a “free” Palestinian society (that is, free from Israel, but not from their own powers) has begun and will descend even further. We predict that intense power struggles will emerge over the next few months - between Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian Authority, and the many Arab family clans, peace within Palestinian society is far away. Due to this massive in-fighting, a civil state can not form.

The only way to break this cycle is for a strong leadership to take hold in Gaza and the West Bank and guide the populace towards peace. Unfornately, we believe that the Arabs require more than strong political leadership - they have shown that they only understand force, which is a feature of a dictatorship, not a democracy. Democracies work on the rule of law; those disobeying the law are the minority and are shunned by the rest of society. As we can see, the Palestinian Authority is far from having the law rule the land - those with the guns make the rules and are loved and revered by the rest of society.

We believe that the withdrawal from Gaza will allow the world to see what the Palestinians are, rather than what they claim to be, by well-polished representatives. We don’t think that the withdrawal will help Palestinian society in the least - a society that doesn’t run according to the rule of law, will descend into lawlessness. Ironically, the only thing ensuring a somewhat lawful society in Arab areas before Israel’s withdrawal was Israel. Now, the terrorist criminals run the show and this will further erode any semblance of society. Unfortunately, this trend towards lawlessness will cause a great security risk to Israel. Israel previously was successful at intercepting thousands of weapons that were to go to terrorist groups. Nobody is going to be intercepting these weapons anymore, and we fear that Israel will be on the receiving end of these weapons soon enough. It is this security risk that we fear the most.

Time will tell what happens, but one thing is for sure. With Israel out of Gaza, Gazan Arabs have to decide whether they’re going to get their act together and become a lawful society, or whether they’re going to continue fighting like their ancestors did in the past. Israel cannot be used as an excuse any longer - the future is the Palestinians’ to determine.
