Information for Webmasters
The resources on this page are presented in an effort to help webmasters with site development, hosting, search engine
visibility, and many other aspects of creating and maintaining a successful website.
The links are divided into categories to help you find what you need.
Site Development
There are many tools for web development ranging from a simple text editor for raw HTML to
large development environments. You should choose tools you are comfortable with and match your
level of ambition for the comlexity of your site and the technology you plan to use.
There are many fine Open Source, freeware components that are widely supported and offer great
functionality for almost anything you might want to do. Almost all ISPs support the combination
of PHP scripting and the mySQL database with which you can build dynamic, database-driven sites of any size and
performance requirements. These tools are free and so popular that there are many sites on
the net that offer advice, sample code, and extensions to make your life easier. Most ISPs
have PHP/mySQL installed as part of basic web hosting packages, but if you plan to use them
make sure they are on the list before signing with an ISP.
Here are a few sites to help you with other ideas and tools. There are many others, but
these will help if you are just starting out:
Free Hosting
Tripod offers free and low cost plans to host your web page. You can get an easy-to-remember URL
in the format ABCDEF.tripod.com for your page.
Yahoo! GeoCities will give you one or more web pages in their thousands of categories of
web sites.
FreeWebspace.net is a directory and guide to free hosting. There is even a section devoted to
non-profit organizations.
Search Engine Visibility
Search Engine Watch is the best all-around resource. All sorts of tips, techniques, and technology with in-depth discussions.
Bruce Clay has this page which describes his search engine ranking methodology.
HighRankings.com is a company that will, for a fee, optimize your pages to achieve the highest
possible ranking in important search engines.
This page gives tips on how to check your ranking once your page starts to appear.
Add Me and Net Mechanic will add your URL to search engines for free. This is a minimal
service (but free) and should be supplemented by other methods. It can take months for the search engines to actually start showing the site you submit.
Graphics and Images
Israel Size Comparison Maps vividly show how small Israel is when superimposed on
various countries and US states. The same web site also has a set of Israel Security Maps showing
how close the borders are to vulnerable population centers. Masada2000.org has some excellent
maps and photos of the Israeli and Jerusalem geography at this link.
